Data coverage
What this prototype knows, and doesn't
Occupation data is real and versioned. Employer, market and job evidence comes from the public sources listed below, checked on demand; anything not connected is shown as unknown, never guessed.
Connected reference sources
O*NET 31.0 database
Quarterly reference release; this build pins 31.0 (August 2026). Describes occupations, not an individual's competence or job-loss probability. Titles, tasks and skills are survey and analyst based; not employer specific.
BLS Employment Projections 2025–35, Table 1.2
Annual release; this build pins the 2025–35 vintage (published August 27, 2026). A ten-year national projection is not a live vacancy count or a personal twelve-month forecast. National Employment Matrix occupations; some O*NET detail occupations share one projection.
BLS AI exposure categories and 2025–35 employment projections
Published with the projections cycle; this build pins the 2025–35 supplement. Relative AI exposure of an occupation's tasks; not a replacement probability and not employer adoption. Four relative categories derived from several research measures.
BLS O*NET-SOC to National Employment Matrix crosswalk
Updated with the projections cycle (as of August 27, 2026). Maps O*NET-SOC 2019 codes to matrix occupations; used only for joining, never shown.
U.S. states and the District of Columbia
Static reference list (ANSI state codes). Names only; local labor-market evidence needs a separately admitted source (LAUS).
Employer and market sources, checked on demand and refreshed daily
SEC EDGAR filings
Fetched on demand when a person confirms a public employer; each fetch is reused for 24 hours. Fair-access policy: identifying agent, at most ten requests per second. Public companies that file with the SEC only; nothing for private employers. Annual figures from 10-K filings; an 8-K Item 2.05 is a workforce event only when the filing's own text says so.
Virginia WARN notices (Virginia Works)
Public CSV export; refreshed daily and on demand. Notices are required only for covered employers and events; not finding one is never evidence of safety. Employer names are matched by wording and confirmed by the person; any contact person named in a notice is never kept.
California WARN report (EDD)
Statewide spreadsheet published by EDD; refreshed daily and on demand. Notices are required only for covered employers and events; not finding one is never evidence of safety. Employer names are matched by wording and confirmed by the person; any contact person named in a notice is never kept.
New York WARN notices (NYS DOL)
HTML table of current notices; refreshed daily and on demand. Notices are required only for covered employers and events; not finding one is never evidence of safety. Employer names are matched by wording and confirmed by the person; any contact person named in a notice is never kept. The page lists recent notices; older notices are on archive pages not yet read.
Maryland WARN log (Maryland Labor)
HTML table for the current year; refreshed daily and on demand. Notices are required only for covered employers and events; not finding one is never evidence of safety. Employer names are matched by wording and confirmed by the person; any contact person named in a notice is never kept.
Tennessee WARN notices (TN Labor & Workforce)
HTML tables by year; refreshed daily and on demand. Notices are required only for covered employers and events; not finding one is never evidence of safety. Employer names are matched by wording and confirmed by the person; any contact person named in a notice is never kept.
Allowlisted employer job boards (Greenhouse and Lever public board APIs)
Each allowlisted board is read daily; postings keep their first-seen and last-checked dates and link to the employer's own page. Only employers on the allowlist that publish through these systems; not the whole market. Requirement matches come from the posting text against the occupation vocabulary; unmatched requirements are to clarify, never confirmed gaps.
BLS public API: JOLTS, CES and LAUS series
Monthly series; refreshed daily (three requests, well under the public API's limits). National industry series (JOLTS layoffs and discharges rate, CES employment) at supersector level and state unemployment rates (LAUS). Not an occupation-, employer- or city-level measure; a state rate is residence based.
Not connected yet
- Layoff notices (WARN) in the other states — each state publishes differently; several pages are script-rendered or PDF-only. Shown as unknown until admitted.
- Employer announcements — permitted first-party statements. Shown as unknown until admitted.
- Cyclical sensitivity (historical industry series) — needs a longer BLS history than the public API window. Shown as unknown until admitted.
- Job boards beyond the allowlist — other employers' boards and aggregators. Shown as unknown until admitted.
- News — official releases and permitted sources. Shown as unknown until admitted.
Limits that stay true with real data
- Not finding a layoff notice doesn't mean there won't be layoffs; not every layoff requires a notice.
- A failed or blocked source check is shown as unknown, never as good news.
- Job boards cover the employers that use them, not the whole market.
- Occupation-level AI exposure is not a personal replacement probability.
- Dates are always shown: when we checked, and how recent the observations are.
